Joomla is a free open source content management system for the publication of content on the World Wide Web and intranets. The various components of the system include page caching to improve performance, RSS feeds, news flashes, printable modes of pages, polls, blogs, searches and language internalization. One peculiarity of the name ‘Joomla’ is that it ends with an exclamation mark. It uses the MySOL database and is written in the PHP programming language. This content management system came into being on August 17, 2005. The developers created a web site called OpenSourceMatters to convey information to the users, developers, web designers, and the society in general. The project team was led by Andrew Eddie.
